Most advice on this question is written by whoever owns one of the channels, which is worth knowing before you read any of it — including this page, which is published by a company that owns one. So here is the bias stated up front: we run a marketplace, it is last on the list below, and it is smaller than the classifieds.

What follows is the comparison we would want if we were choosing. The useful distinction is not which site is biggest, it is which part of the job each channel does — because advertising a litter and closing a sale are two different problems, and almost every option here solves only the first one.

/ the channels

Six ways to put a litter in front of people.

Puppy classifieds

Puppies.com, NextDayPets, Lancaster Puppies, Greenfield Puppies

Reach
Large
Cost
Per listing or per month, varies by site
Good for

Volume. These sites have spent twenty years building the search rankings for every "[breed] puppies for sale" term there is, and a listing on one puts you in front of more traffic than anything else on this list.

The catch

You are one row in a grid, competing on price with everyone else on the page, and the enquiry arrives as a raw email address. Everything after the advert — screening, deposit, contract, delivery — is yours to organize.

Breed club and registry listings

AKC Marketplace, national and regional breed club directories

Reach
Small but extremely well-qualified
Cost
Often free to members, or a modest annual fee
Good for

The best buyers on this page. Someone who finds you through a breed club has already read about the breed, expects health testing, and is not going to ask whether you will take $400.

The catch

Low volume, and most require registration, membership or a code of ethics you have to meet. That is a feature rather than a bug, but it will not fill a litter of nine on its own.

Facebook groups and pages

Breed-specific groups, local buy-and-sell groups

Reach
Medium, highly variable
Cost
Free
Good for

Free, immediate, and social proof travels. A good post in an active breed group can fill a litter in a weekend, and the comments do your reputation-building for you.

The catch

Many groups ban sales posts outright, reach is at the mercy of an algorithm, and enquiries arrive in message requests you will not see for three days. It is also where most puppy scams are run, so buyers there start suspicious.

Your own website

A breeder site, or the KennelBoss microsite and embed widget

Reach
Only people who already know you
Cost
Hosting, or included
Good for

You own it, nobody can delist you, and it is where a serious buyer goes after they have found you somewhere else. Repeat buyers and referrals land here first.

The catch

It reaches nobody new on its own. A website is where a sale is confirmed, not where it starts — unless you are also doing the work to rank it, which is a second job.

Paid social ads

Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram

Reach
As large as your budget
Cost
Ad spend, plus management
Good for

The only channel here you can turn up on demand. If a litter is three weeks from go-home day with spots open, this is the lever that exists.

The catch

Animal sales sit close to Meta's policy lines, so creative and wording matter more than they do in other categories, and a badly targeted campaign spends real money reaching people who will never buy a dog.

A breeder marketplace

PickMePets, built into KennelBoss

Reach
Medium and growing
Cost
$9.99 a listing, or included in a plan
Good for

The advert and the sale are the same record: the enquiry, the video call, the contract and the $500 reservation deposit all attach to the puppy you listed. Nothing is retyped and nothing is chased.

The catch

Smaller reach than the big classifieds. Most breeders here run it alongside one, rather than instead of one.

Sites are named to identify them and belong to their owners. We have not quoted their prices here because listing fees change often and a stale number would be worse than none — check the current terms on any site you list with.

/ the recommendation

Pick three, and make one of them handle the money.

One channel for reach — a large classified, or paid social when a litter needs filling fast. One for quality — your breed club, where the buyers who already understand the breed come from. And one place where the enquiry turns into a sale: a video call booked, a contract signed, a $500 deposit taken and the puppy off the market.

That third one is the gap in every other row on this page, and it is the one KennelBoss was built to fill. A single listing is $9.99, so you can run it alongside whatever is already working for you rather than instead of it.

/ questions
Where is the best place to advertise puppies for sale?+

There is no single best place, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling one. The honest answer is a combination: a large classified for reach, a breed club listing for quality, your own page for the buyers who come back, and somewhere that handles the deposit and the contract so the enquiries you get actually close. What you should not do is advertise in one place only.

Is it free to advertise puppies for sale?+

In some places, yes. Facebook groups, most breed club directories for members, and your own website cost nothing to post on. The large classifieds charge per listing or per month. Free advertising is genuinely worth doing — just be clear that it is only the advert, and the screening, deposit and paperwork are still yours.

How many places should I advertise a litter?+

Two or three, and then stop. Past that you are managing adverts rather than raising puppies, and you will lose track of which buyer saw which price. Pick one high-reach channel, one high-quality channel, and one place that handles the money — and route every enquiry from all of them into the same inbox.

Do puppy classifieds take a commission?+

Most classifieds charge for the listing rather than the sale, but terms differ from site to site and change, so read the current terms of any site you list on. KennelBoss never takes a percentage: a flat $100 introduction fee applies once when PickMePets introduced the buyer, taken out of the $500 reservation deposit, and nothing at all when you brought the buyer yourself.

When should I start advertising a litter?+

Before the puppies are born. Breeders who fill litters fastest publish the upcoming litter during the pregnancy and build a waitlist, so by the time there are photographs worth posting there is already a queue. Advertising at eight weeks is advertising late.

Can I advertise in more than one place at once?+

Yes, and you should. Nothing about a KennelBoss listing is exclusive. A common setup is to keep the classified adverts running and point every enquiry they produce at your KennelBoss listing, so the video call, the contract and the deposit happen in one place no matter where the buyer first saw the puppy.

/ next step

Advertise anywhere. Close in one place.

Keep the adverts that are working and send every enquiry somewhere that takes the deposit.
