/ roundup

The best dog breeding software in 2026, compared.

Five programs, checked against each vendor’s own pricing and features pages in September 2026. Breedera has the best free plan. Breeder Cloud Pro is the best value at $6.99 a month. BreederBuddy is the strongest all-round record keeper at $29.99. Dog Breeder Pro is the simplest to buy at $14.99. And KennelBoss is the only one of the five that markets your litters, books buyer video calls and collects a $500 reservation deposit — which is why it is also the most expensive, at $49.99 a month.

Best for selling the litter

KennelBoss

$49.99/month or $449/year

The only one of the five that puts your puppies in a marketplace buyers search, books a video call with them, and collects a $500 reservation deposit that takes the puppy off the market. Also the most expensive, which is the honest trade.

The first four rows are table stakes and everybody clears them. The interesting part of this table is the bottom half, which is where the category splits into record keepers and sales channels.

/ in detail

What each one is actually for.

BreederBuddy

From $29.99 per month
30 days free, no card taken
KennelBoss vs BreederBuddy

BreederBuddy is a well-built kennel management system with real payment plumbing behind it — Stripe cards and ACH, deposit tracking, contracts a buyer signs, and a portal they log into. Where it stops is before the part that finds the buyer. Nothing in BreederBuddy puts your litter in front of someone who is not already talking to you.

Strengths
  • Unlimited dogs, litters and puppies on a single flat plan — no cap to grow out of.
  • Genuine payment infrastructure: Stripe card and ACH, deposits, invoices, and a buyer portal.
  • Contracts with digital signatures are included rather than sold as a tier.
Where it stops
  • No marketplace. Your listings are visible to people you already sent a link to.
  • No video calls, so the introduction happens on whatever app you and the buyer agree on.
  • Payments pass straight through — there is no held balance standing behind the buyer.

Best for: A breeder with a full waitlist who needs the paperwork organised, not the buyers found. If your litters are spoken for before they are born, BreederBuddy does the part you actually need and does it well.

Breeder Cloud Pro

From $6.99 per month
30 days free, cancel anytime
KennelBoss vs Breeder Cloud Pro

Breeder Cloud Pro runs dogs, cats, horses, goats, rabbits and sheep out of one system, which is why it is priced the way it is and why it is shaped the way it is. It has a breeder directory and payments through Payarc, so it is not purely a record book — but the directory lists breeders, not litters, and a buyer browsing it is browsing kennels.

Strengths
  • The lowest entry price in this comparison by a wide margin, at $6.99 a month.
  • One system for six species, which matters if you breed more than dogs.
  • A Pet Portal where the buyer reaches their pet's details, contract, invoice and payment from a single link.
Where it stops
  • The directory lists breeders, not puppies, so a buyer searching for a breed and a date is not served by it.
  • No video calls, no held balance, and no transport.
  • Standard caps you at ten active dams; a busy kennel is on Pro whether it wanted to be or not.

Best for: A multi-species breeder, or anyone who wants solid records and a buyer portal for the price of a coffee. At $6.99 a month the value is genuinely hard to argue with.

Breedera

From £0.00 Free plan
A permanently free plan rather than a trial
KennelBoss vs Breedera

Breedera is a UK app for the weeks around a whelp: heat cycles, whelp date countdowns, weights, growth charts, treatments and feeds. It is unusually good at that and it gives most of it away. It does not take payments, it does not list puppies, and it does not pretend to — selling the litter happens somewhere else entirely.

Strengths
  • A genuinely useful free tier — unlimited dog and litter profiles, heat prediction and whelp forecasting at £0.00.
  • You can move down to Free after the puppies leave without losing your records, which is honest design.
  • Growth charts that compare a puppy against its own littermates are the best implementation of that idea in this group.
Where it stops
  • No payments of any kind, so deposits and balances happen off-platform.
  • No marketplace and no listings — buyers do not arrive through Breedera.
  • Priced in pounds, which means a moving number on a US card statement.

Best for: A breeder with one or two litters a year who already has buyers and wants the pregnancy and puppy-rearing weeks tracked properly, for free. On that job Breedera is excellent and costs nothing.

Dog Breeder Pro

From $14.99 per month, excluding VAT
30 days of full access, no card taken
KennelBoss vs Dog Breeder Pro

Dog Breeder Pro is the simplest proposition in this comparison: a single plan with every feature in it, apps on both phones, and no tier chart to read. It covers pedigrees, health records, litter histories, contacts and a website builder. What its public pages do not describe is any way for a buyer to find you or pay you.

Strengths
  • One plan with everything in it — no feature gated behind an upgrade you discover later.
  • Real apps on iOS and Android, which not everyone in this group has.
  • Free data import help and a standard-format export, so you are not locked in at either end.
Where it stops
  • No marketplace, so buyers arrive from wherever you already send them.
  • Payment processing and deposit collection are not described on its public pages.
  • No video calls, no held balance, no transport.

Best for: A breeder who wants one honest subscription, every feature switched on, and a good phone app — and who already handles money and buyers their own way.

/ how we compared them

Methodology, and our own bias.

  • We read each vendor's own pricing and features pages and took the figures from there. Nothing in the table came from a search-result summary, a review-site listing or an AI answer box.
  • Where a vendor does not publish an answer, the table says "Not publicly listed" instead of "No". Several of these products may do more than their marketing pages describe.
  • Prices are as of 15 September 2026 and in the currency each vendor bills in. Breedera is a UK company and prices in pounds; we have not converted it, because a converted figure is a number they never charge anyone.
  • KennelBoss publishes this page and sells one of the five products on it. We have tried to write the comparison we would want to read if we were choosing, including the rows where we lose.
/ questions
What is the best dog breeding software in 2026?+

It depends which half of the job is costing you money. For record-keeping on a budget, Breeder Cloud Pro at $6.99 a month is the best value and Breedera's free plan is genuinely free. For admin depth, BreederBuddy at $29.99 is the strongest. For selling the litter — listing puppies where buyers search, meeting them on video, taking a reservation deposit and holding the balance until hand-off — KennelBoss at $49.99 a month is the only one of the five that does it.

Which dog breeding software is cheapest?+

Breedera has a permanently free plan covering unlimited dog and litter profiles, heat cycle prediction and whelp forecasting. Among paid plans, Breeder Cloud Pro Standard is the cheapest at $6.99 a month, though it caps you at ten active dams. All prices checked 15 September 2026.

Which dog breeding software lets me sell puppies online?+

KennelBoss lists your puppies on the PickMePets marketplace, books buyer video calls, and collects a fixed $500 reservation deposit. Breeder Cloud Pro publishes a breeder directory, which is discovery of a kind, but it lists kennels rather than individual litters. BreederBuddy, Breedera and Dog Breeder Pro do not describe a marketplace on their public pages — they assume you found the buyer yourself.

Do any of these take a commission on puppy sales?+

None of the five takes a percentage of the sale price. KennelBoss charges a flat $100 introduction fee, once, when PickMePets introduced the buyer — taken out of the $500 reservation deposit, so you still receive $400 of it. A buyer you brought yourself carries no introduction fee at all.

Can I use more than one of these together?+

Yes, and for a small breeder it is often the cheapest sensible setup. Breedera's free plan for the whelping weeks plus KennelBoss Per Puppy at $9.99 a listing when it is time to sell costs less than most single subscriptions here, provided each puppy is listed at $500 or more.

How often is this comparison updated?+

Every figure carries the date it was verified, and we re-check the vendors' pricing pages quarterly or whenever one of them ships a major change. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

/ next step

Every one of them will store your pedigrees.

One of them will put the litter in front of buyers, book the call, and take the deposit that holds the puppy.
