Breeder Code of Ethics & Community Standards
Last Updated: July 16, 2026
KennelBoss and Pick Me Pets exist to help responsible breeders connect with buyers who will love their puppies for a lifetime. This Code of Ethics reflects the standards we expect every breeder on our platforms to uphold. It’s how we build trust with buyers, and it’s part of what makes a KennelBoss listing mean something.
This Code is a statement of our community standards and expectations. It supplements, and does not replace, the legal obligations in the KennelBoss Terms & Conditions of Service (the “Terms”), which remain the binding contract between you and KennelBoss. Meeting the standards in this Code is not, by itself, a certification, guarantee, or verification of your practices — see Section 4 of the Terms.
1. Health & Welfare
We expect breeders to:
- provide a clean, safe, and appropriately sized living environment for all breeding animals and litters;
- ensure breeding animals and puppies receive appropriate veterinary care, including age-appropriate vaccinations and a pre-placement wellness check;
- perform and honestly represent relevant health testing for the breed (such as OFA, PennHIP, or Embark panels) and disclose known health risks, including in DNA and genetic results;
- never breed an animal with a known disqualifying health condition without appropriate veterinary guidance;
- follow responsible breeding frequency practices appropriate to the breed and the individual animal’s health; and
- socialize puppies appropriately before placement and provide age-appropriate care until placement.
2. Honesty in Listings & Communication
We expect breeders to:
- accurately represent every puppy’s breed, age, health status, and temperament;
- disclose all known health and welfare issues, exactly as required under Section 7.1 of the Terms;
- use only genuine photos and videos of the actual puppy or litter being offered;
- honor the terms of any written contract, deposit policy, or health guarantee provided to a buyer; and
- respond to buyer inquiries in good faith and in a timely manner.
3. Responsible Placement
We expect breeders to:
- use reasonable efforts to match puppies with suitable homes, including asking appropriate questions of prospective buyers;
- provide buyers with care guidance, feeding information, and any relevant medical records at placement;
- be available to answer reasonable questions from buyers after placement; and
- take back or assist in rehoming an animal they bred if a buyer can no longer care for it, where reasonably possible.
4. Legal & Regulatory Compliance
We expect breeders to comply with all applicable licensing, health certificate, and consumer protection requirements described in Section 12 of the Terms, and to maintain any state or local breeding licenses required in their jurisdiction.
5. What We Don’t Allow
Consistent with Section 14 of the Terms, we do not allow breeders on our platforms to:
- operate in conditions that fail to meet basic humane care standards;
- misrepresent a puppy’s health, breed, registration status, or genetic testing results;
- sell puppies below the minimum age permitted by applicable law or generally accepted veterinary guidance for safe separation from the dam;
- operate as a broker or reseller of puppies bred by others without disclosure; or
- engage in any of the prohibited conduct described in Section 14 of the Terms.
6. How This Code Is Used
We may consider a breeder’s adherence to this Code when reviewing complaints, evaluating listings, and making decisions about account status under Section 17 of the Terms. As explained in Section 4 of the Terms, our review of breeder practices is based on information breeders provide to us and is not independent verification of day-to-day operations. If you become aware that another breeder is not meeting these standards, you can report it to hello@kennelboss.app.
7. Feedback
This Code reflects our current standards and may evolve as we learn from our breeder and buyer community. If you have suggestions, we’d like to hear them at hello@kennelboss.app.
